Come and join us for a dance performance at The Court Theatre @ Swindon Dance – a hidden gem in Swindon’s landmark, historic building.
The Court Theatre (109 seats) is housed in our distinctive Victorian Grade II Listed building (built in 1891) which has some quirky original features including a 90 foot high clock tower which you cant miss as you approach the building from the town centre.
As you walk through the entrance porch and into the large Reception area – you will come face to face with a ‘murderer ‘ in the form of a marble statue of Charlotte Corday (1768 – 1793 French Revolutionary Heroine) do pause and take a minute to read about her murderous past (she has absolutely no connection to the Town Hall but the building has been her residence for as long as we can remember!)
Once past Charlotte, cast your eyes to the sweeping staircase and the large stained glass windows which will take you upstairs to the Landing.
On a performance night the Landing is transformed into our atmospheric bar area with candles, tables and chairs and soft music … sit down and enjoy a pre-show drink with friends whilst you wait for the performance to start.
As you take your seat for the performance of your choice take time to reflect that over the past 43 years The Court Theatre has presented performances by some of the most well-known companies (when they were not so well known!) including Russell Maliphant, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Siobhan Davies Dance and Adventures in Motion Pictures (Matthew Bourne) – all these companies are now known internationally.
We cant wait to welcome you to the Court Theatre.
