We were thrilled to hear the news that Eddie Nixon was recently appointed Artistic Director of The Place, London.
Eddie’s connection to Swindon Dance spans several years and began when he was just 8; taking part in Saturday morning creative classes. Growing up in an artistic family (his Mum Marie McCluskey MBE was our founder and former Artistic Director) it’s not surprising that his passion for the arts and in particular, musical theatre increased. This in turn, led to child roles “treading the boards” in London’s West End. As a teenager he continued his dance education with us through Just for Kicks (in the same era as our now Vice Chairman Clare Cannock) and then later on as a member of the Youth Talent Programme (precursor to the Centre for Advanced Training). Since then Eddie has gone on to achieve a degree in Chemistry from Bristol University along with a BA (Hons) and MA at London Contemporary Dance School. He has worked with incredible artists and companies including New Adventures, The Featherstonehaughs, Protein Dance, DV8 Physical Theatre and Mark Bruce. Some of whom received support from Swindon Dance in their early days when they were just on the cusp of becoming the critically acclaimed organisations that they are today. In 2005, Eddie joined the staff team at The Place and has established himself an instrumental figure in the UK dance industry, progressing from Associate Director to Director of Theatre and Artist Development at The Place and now Artistic Director.
It has been a privilege to be a part of Eddie’s dance journey and from all of us here at Swindon Dance we would like to wish him every success in his new role.
