Caldonia Dances & Kathy Richardson present ALEX – Weight/Wait The Film

Alex is at their first counselling session. Will their mind let them stay? A new, interactive digital dance work for young people (14+) exploring the mental and physical ‘weight’ of our thoughts, and the impact of our inner voice on the body and our self-confidence.

Empathetically tactful, gracefully written and exceptionally performed…as exquisite as it is heart-wrenching, a welcome conversation on anxiety through dance.

Hannah Lee, Voice Magazine on Weight/Wait at Brighton Fringe Festival 2019.

Using dance, text and poetry, the film follows an interweaving narrative of three characters called Alex as they figure out how to keep their head above water. An original story created by Caldonia Walton & Kathy Richardson from personal experiences and research with young people in youth groups and hospitals.

About the creators

Caldonia Dances
Caldonia Dances creates original stories for stage and film, using movement as the starting point and merging it with theatre, text and design. The work seeks to explore real experiences and is created from research with dancers, collaborators, writing, reading and talking to people about their lived experiences. Caldonia is interested in how dance and movement can be situated within everyday narratives, relate to the current cultural and political climate, and use emotion and humour to take audiences on a journey. Her choreographic work has been shared at The Royal Opera House Linbury Theatre, The Dance Centre (Vancouver), The Southbank Centre, The Place, London Fashion Week, Tristan Bates Theatre, Channel 4 Random Acts & Edinburgh & Brighton Fringe Festivals. As a performer, Caldonia has worked with artists such as VOXED, Autin Dance Theatre, Cascade Dance Theatre, Ransack Dance Company, Mad Dogs Dance Theatre, ZK Dance, Cirque Bijou, Dam Van Huynh, Willi Dorner, Lizzie J Klotz & more.
