MICHAEL KITCHEN
Michael Kitchen
Michael Kitchen is artistic director of RPM Dance Theatre. He also performs with Bollywood Grooves and is a member of Paraíso School of Samba, taking part in the annual Notting Hill Carnival. In July, Michael, who trained at Swindon Dance, returned to us to lead workshops for national Big Dance week.
Born in London, Michael has deep roots in Swindon, where he has also lived. He has family in Brazil too, a connection that has given him a keen interest in Brazilian dance.
Michael began his training at Swindon Dance with Just for Kicks, then Swindon Youth Dance Company and the Foundation Dance Course. He received a scholarship to train at Laban, graduating in 2002. Later he travelled to Brazil to study Axé with Orlando Bayno of Timbaue Cia de Dança.
In 2005 Micahel founded RPM Dance Theatre. His first full length work Sardines was shown in London at Riverside Studios and The Place to rave reviews.
He says, "Swindon Dance is very special to me as my dancing roots are there ... In the difficult times of my professional training it was my Swindon Dance memories that made me keep on trying and not give up."
Not only does Michael really love dancing but he enjoys teaching too, and all of us at Swindon Dance hope that Michael's story inspired thosw who took part in his Bhangra & Bollywood workshops.
