For nearly three decades,
Swindon Dance has commissioned
and co-commissioned the creation and/or performance of dance works
in and for the region, often in support
of artists at the early stages of their careers.
Importantly, we are a strategic commissioner and seek to place resources where benefits will be far-reaching.
Our involvement may include considerable advisory and management support, audience development, work space and other practical resources as well as or in lieu of funds.
We have recently increased the scope of our commissioning relationship to take on the role of producer for selected projects.
We commission 2-3 middle scale and 2-3 small scale works each year
We produce 2 middle scale productions per year
HOW WE COMMISSION
Commissions are usually the result of an already-developed creative relationship with an artist or company. Creative relationships are developed through participation in Swindon Dance's artist professional development and/or performance programmes. For example, an artist or company might be involved in in a danslab, performance platform or creative residency.
A commission can be initiated by either our artistic director or an artist or company. Very occasionally we advertise the availablility of a commission. One such example is our commission for the Taking Risks Festival.
