This BTEC gives dance students wishing to progress onto full-time dance training at a dance Conservatoire or vocational college – the next stage in their training both the required level of dance training and academic qualification for entry all under one roof.
It is equivalent to studying 3 A-Levels, is a 2-year course and requires a minimum of 1080 hours of guided tuition/training. The course will cover the training needs of dancers from contemporary and urban backgrounds with training in ballet, contemporary, jazz, urban and other dance styles, along with choreography, healthier dancer and the performing arts business. Additionally there are course performances, attendance at theatre performances plus audition planning and preparation. The course has approximately an 80% practical / 20% theoretical weighting.
It is delivered by Swindon Dance and various guest artists, dance companies and choreographers. Students will study at Swindon Dance 3-days per week; Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during college term time.
This programme is a partnership between Swindon Dance, Prime Theatre and White Horse Federation. It is accredited through the Ridgeway Sixth Form (part of the White Horse Federation). Students will apply for this course through Swindon Dance & will be enrolled for the qualification through Ridgeway Sixth Form.
