TAVAZIVA DANCE
Tavaziva Dance is a Swindon Dance associate company. Their Artistic Director, Bawren Tavaziva, is also supported by Swindon Dance as an associate artist.
Tavaziva has been heralded as a unique voice in the dance world. Their work fuses influences from urban Africa — Zimbabwe in particular — and contemporary urban Britain with traditional African dance.
The company explores global themes and generational cultural differences, inspiring and entertaining audiences with their high-energy choreography, performed by skilled artists. They use original music, composed by the multi-talented Bawren Tavaziva.
The work is often based on a personal story or life experience and Bawren believes that drawing on his feelings and experiences helps his work touch people more deeply.
Africa is at the heart of the company's work but they draw on a modern dance language, bringing to the stage a unique perspective on African dance. They hope that this allows audiences a greater understanding of both African and British cultures and how they evolve with each new generation.
Of the association with Swindon Dance, Company Manager Tim Tubbs has said:
"The relationship is invaluable to us ... with the time, support and space that Swindon Dance has given us, we have been able to make our presence felt in the region and find new audiences."
