PROTEIN DANCE IN RESIDENCE
+ Stratton Education Centre PRU
29th June - 17th July
We are hosting a three-week residency for Protein Dance with Year 9 and Year 10 pupils from Stratton Education Centre Pupil Referral Unit.
The students will work alongside Protein's Artistic Director Luca Silvestrini and three dance artists, including two former DansConnect dancers, to create a short performance piece. They will perform this to an invited audience on Friday 17th July at 7pm.
Among the aims of the project are the promotion ofpositive behaviour, the provision of quality creative dance experiences and encouragement of new audiences for dance. It has been made possible by funds raised by Protein from the Monument Trust, and by the Stratton Centre from Swindon Borough Council's Key Stage 4 engagement programme. Swindon Dance plays host, providing space and project management support.
This project reflects our golden thread approach, linking dance education, community dance, performance and artistic development.

HELEN GANBERG
Independent dance artist Helen Ganberg is the Artistic Director of Swindon Dance associate company,
Swerve Dance Theatre Company.
Originally from Cornwall and a hippy at heart Helen has lived in Swindon for the last 12 years. She met her future husband, Barry, Director of Music at The Rambert School in London, while working with us at Swindon Dance. They have two children: Coby, who is 6 years old, and Lissi, 6 months.
Helen trained first at Laban in London and then at Brighton University, spending the first 3 years of her working life in a secondary school in Devon. The post of Senior Education & Access Officer was what brought her to Swindon Dance in 1996 and she held that post for 10 years.
Now independent, Helen creates and performs work for her own dance company,
Swerve, which is a Swindon Dance
associate company, and also for our
Swindon Youth Dance Company. In 1997 she received an
Alpha Associate award from us to develop her own choreographic voice and language, and went on to create
mySpace a duet, most-recently performed at The Big Chill Festival at Eastnor Castle.
Her teaching posts include Team Leader for The Wiltshire and Swindon LDA, for the professional development of primary-based school teachers in the county, and work with Swindon Dance's
Youth Dance Academy.
Helen has teamed up with dance artist Zoe Humphries, another ex-Swindon Dance Education & Access Officer, to co-direct
Skedaddle Dance, an organisation that provides creative dance activities for young people and children.
In her spare time, which she finds hards to find, Helen enjoys drinking cups of tea and playing on Nintendo Wii. She is a keen mosaicist, creating pieces with primary school children for playgrounds in and around Swindon, as well as undertaking commissions for friends. Helen is a qualified Integral Yoga Teacher and enjoys introducing children to the benefits of yoga.
