Stan Won't Dance comes to Swindon
12-19 FEBRUARY 2010
Choreographic mavericks Liam Steel and Robert Tannion return with Stan Won't Dance and a provocative new work, Babel. Collaborating with writer Patrick Neate, the show combines explosive choreography with words of mass destruction to create the ultimate act of dance terrorism.
The company is also running workshops and a discussion forum.

YDA urban dancer on BBC dance show
December 2009
Youth Dance Academy urban dancer Frankie Johnson has made it
through to 'boot camp' on top TV show So You Think You Can Dance, which comes back to Britain in 2010 after five hit seasons in the US.
Frankie Johnson
To gain his place in the top 100, Frankie had to impress Nigel Lythgoe and Arlene Phillips at national auditions. You can watch him experiencing boot camp on BBC1 in January. If he's successful, Frankie will go on to appear in the live Saturday shows.
Coming soon ... follow Frankie on the YDA website.

Education News
Cultural Architects in partnership with RIO
Coming up in 2010
Following the successful launch of the Cultural Architects project last year in Swindon, the Real Ideas Organisation has invited us to take a leading role in the planning and delivery of collaborative arts projects in four Swindon Schools.
The project focuses on year 8 boys who, for various reasons, are not fully engaged in their curriculum studies. Two artists from different disciplines work with the lead teacher in each school to create an arts experience, engaging the boys in planning, learning and performing new skills. This potentially transformative experience is available to 50 boys across the four schools, with some of 2008's Cultural Architects acting as mentors and project assistants.
Leading regional artists Marie-Louise Flexen, Ulf Pederson, Banxy and Asian Arts Agency will bring traditional and contemporary skills into the schools, combining dance with digital media, live music and visual arts. Isambard Community School, Nova Hreod, St Josephs and Swindon Academy will participate, with the resulting work presented at Swindon Dance's May Manoeuvres.

Associate Artist News
Associate Artist 2009-2010
November 2009
We are delighted to announce that Gloucestershire-based choreographer/dancer Marie-Louise Flexen has been appointed lead Swindon Dance South West Associate Artist for September 2009 - August 2010.
Marie-Louise
On hearing of her appointment, Marie-Louise said, "Swindon Dance has been an invaluable contributor to raising my artistic profile and practice in the South West region — this new recognition will enable me to enhance and further my profile both at a regional level and nationally".
To celebrate, Swindon Dance hosted An Evening with Marie-Louise on 6th November. The building was filled with images, film, installations and live performance of stunning original physical theatre and dance, all created by Marie-Louise.
